Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR came up with a great performance for the first 14 overs of the CSK innings restricting the visitors to just 86 runs. It looked like the visiting team would with difficult manage to cross 100 odd runs. But Dhoni and Badrinath cut loose at this stage to plunder another 80 odd runs from last 6 overs and making a formidable score for KKR to chase.

The Knight Riders suffered early losses and never really recovered. Some tight and great bowling from the visiting team saw the Riders wilt under the pressure and nearly fold up for less than 100. But the last pair of Ishant and Murali held steady for 5 overs to score 22 runs.

Introspection time for the Knight Riders who after some remarkable performances in the last two matches lost it badly this time.

Kolkata Knight Riders Restricted the Royal Challengers to a small total of just 135. Brilliant bowling by Angelo Mathews of the Riders left the Challengers reeling. The only person to sink in his roots and was Kallis who scored 65 of the total of 135 runs. In their first Royal Challengers last years finalists could not get enough runs on the board nor offer any challenging bowling as KKR’s Manoj Tiwary and Brad Hodge the openers made 50 each to take the total to 101. After that it was smooth saling for the Riders who comfortably reached their target.

Saurav used his resources skilfully and exploited chinks in the Challengers armor. Winning the toss he put Kumble’s men into bat. Langaveldt made early strikes and thereafter a steady fall of wickets kept the Challengers on the backfoot.

An interesting match is on the cards today. The Royal Challengers will be opening the IPL season 3 with a match against the Knight Riders at Kolkata today. Fresh from a victory against the defending champs the Knight Riders will be riding high on confidence as they take on last year’s finalists

What a great victory it was. The Knight Riders came back from a disastrous start to pile on the runs thanks to Owais Shah and Mathews. And then when Gilly of the Deccan Chargers looked all set to over haul their total they struck back. Again and again they got rid of the dangerous batsmen in the Chargers side to deny the defending champions any foothold. This was a fine win indeed. Saurav and his men deserve all credit for the wonderful way in which they played today. IF they continue this sort of performance then the Championship is not a distant dream at all. Congratulations are in order here!!

The Knight Riders made a disastrous start when 2 wickets fell for no runs. Chaminda Vaas got rid both the openers for nought. But Owais Shah and Angelo Mathews did a great job in the later overs to put up a remarkable score of 161 for 4 wickets. Shah  making his debut in the IPL tournament made a 50 in his maiden outing. The Deccan Chargers will need to score 162 in 20 overs to beat the knight riders.

Knight Riders will  be playing against the Deccan Chargers in their first match tomorrow at Mumbai.

Deccan Charges are the Champion Team and will be playing to retain the trophy that they won last year.  The Knight Riders after two rough outings will want to try and start winning this year. Last year John Buchanan with rotating captaincy theory had made a complete mockery of the Kolkata Knight rider team.  Even before the first ball was bowled the Knight Riders were already at the nadir in terms of motivation.

This year it’s going to be a completely different ball game. Dave Whatmore is at the helm and Saurav Ganguly is back in the captain’s seat. Expect some great things from your team this year!!

A new purple uniform will be worn by the KKR team for IPL season III. Black is no longer the color. SRK said Ganguly and Juhi Chawla changed the team colors.
