10 Maverick Rules for Twitter

by Dr.Mani on February 4, 2009

Mavericks are different. They do things that most others do not – or dare not!

Here are my 10 Maverick Rules for Twitter that will intensify your enjoyment of the rapidly growing social network that Twitter has now become… without having to spend all day on it!

Maverick Twitter Rule #1. Follow ONLY people you want to. Don’t let anyone ‘force’ you into going after many more.

Maverick Twitter Rule #2. Set a STRICT upper limit of how many people you follow. Keep it manageable. Don’t exceed it. To add someone new, remove one of your existing followees.

Maverick Twitter Rule #3. Restrict your time on Twitter to 10 minutes a day. Split it up into 2 or 3 ‘chunks’ if you like.

Maverick Twitter Rule #4. Tweet no more than 5 messages at a time. Cluster them together for greatest impact.

Maverick Twitter Rule #5. Study what the people you follow tweet. That’s why you’re here in the first place, remember? Explore links. Interact. Respond.

Maverick Twitter Rule #6. Use Twitter tools like Twitter Search to sweep the tweet stream for topics, keywords or news items – only when you need them.

Maverick Twitter Rule #7. Qualify your followers, too. Protect your Twitter and approve new followers after screening their profiles.

Maverick Twitter Rule #8. Respect your followers. Don’t do anything that will not add value to them.

Maverick Twitter Rule #9. Trim your follower list by removing, from time to time, those who do not engage, respond or interact with you.

Maverick Twitter Rule #10. Buy ‘SOCIAL WINS’ to define and refine your social media strategy, and ‘TWITTER PROFIT’ to learn how to maximize your value on Twitter.

Follow these “10 Maverick Rules for Twitter”and have fun!
