TWINTERVIEW – a Twitter interview

by Dr.Mani on August 28, 2008

RE-TWEET IT!

This is the ‘transcript’ of a TWINTERVIEW (a Twitter interview) I had about the forthcoming ‘Heart Kids Tweet-a-thon‘ on September 12th. Hope you enjoy it!

- – - – - – -

What’s a ‘Twitter Interview’ called? Answer: a TWITTER-VIEW.

I’m conducting a ‘virtual’ TWITTER-VIEW with @tweet_a_thon about the Heart Kids Tweet-a-thon coming on Sep.12th. Hope you enjoy it! :)

@tweet_a_thon Many people want to know what exactly the Heart Kids Tweet-a-thon is… Can you explain it briefly?

@drmani – It’s a 24-hour day-and-night tweeting marathon, where you’ll be posting on Twitter every 30 min. to raise awareness about CHD

@tweet_a_thon – *I* will?

@drmani – Yes, YOU. And of course, anyone else who wants to join in is welcome, for all 24 hours, or even a part of the day :)

@tweet_a_thon – I sure hope some folks do… it gets kind of lonely at times :) Anyway – why a tweet-a-thon?

@drmani Doing something remarkable, out of the ordinary, gets attention… for CHD. http://www.CHDinfo.com/tweetathon.htm has more info

@tweet_a_thon – What is CHD (congenital heart defects)?

@drmani CHD are birth disorders of the heart. They affect kids. Often need surgery. http://CHDinfo.com/chdaware/ has more info

@tweet_a_thon When does the Heart Kids Tweetathon begin?

@drmani – On September 12th, in the morning. It goes on until 24 hours later. No breaks!

@tweet_a_thon What will the tweets be about?

@drmani – The theme for this event is ‘Passion. Purpose. Persistence’. We’ve got some nice posts planned, haven’t we?

@tweet_a_thon We certainly do! I hear many others are involved too?

@drmani – Yes, over 18 people have promised to share ‘exclusive’ content with our followers on Twitter (I’m expecting more)

@tweet_a_thon That should be interesting. Now, in addition to awareness, we’re raising funds too. How can someone donate?

@drmani – Here’s the donation page: http://CHDinfo.com/howdonate.htm

@tweet_a_thon Great. And what if people want to help spread the word about this event?

@drmani We’ve got some ready-to-go material they can use. http://www.chdinfo.com/tweetathon-promo.htm

@tweet_a_thon Wasn’t there a movie on YouTube too?

@drmani – Yes, here’s a link: http://niche2.com/chd/index.php?paged=7 And another movie is at http://CHDinfo.com/movie/

@tweet_a_thon And there’s a cartoon that anyone can send by email too, right?

@drmani – Right. The CHD Bridge. http://www.CHDinfo.com/bridge/

@tweet_a_thon So, is this the first time this event is being held?

@drmani Yes, in earlier years, it was a Blog-a-thon – http://HeartKidsBlogathon.info

We’re discussing the Heart Kids Tweet-a-thon that’s coming on September 12th – http://www.CHDinfo.com/tweetathon.htm

@tweet_a_thon How can people who want to support this get involved?

@drmani – One way is to tell others about it. Another is to build a Squidoo lens http://www.CHDinfo.com/squidoo.htm

@tweet_a_thon Can supporters and donors see exactly who they are helping, and how their support matters?

@drmanihttp://www.chdinfo.com/chd-stories/ has some stories of children who have been helped by earlier events like this one

@tweet_a_thon – What if donors have more questions?

@drmani – They can ask right here on Twitter. We’re answering a few on the CHD blog too at http://Niche2.com/chd/

@tweet_a_thon – And some people are curious about WHO is behind this idea of a Heart Kids Tweetathon.

@drmani – They can learn all about that at http://www.DrMani.org :)

@tweet_a_thon – Well, that’s great. Thanks for all that info. Hope there’s a TON of support for the event on September 12th. G’night :)

Bloggers Arise And Unite!

by Dr.Mani on August 27, 2008

RE-TWEET IT!

I’m trying a slightly different approach with this year’s Heart Kids Tweet-a-thon – to try and get conversations started around the blogosphere by inviting active participation, engagement and involvement by partners.

I’m calling out to YOU.

Yes, you.

And I’m asking if you’ll help kick-off some discussion on your blog, website, on forums and social networks, about issues surrounding the problem of heart birth defects and the effort being made to fight it.

Here are some suggestions for what you might want to blog/write about.

- – - – -

Idea #1: Cause, Story or Fundraiser?

Are you more likely to support a non-profit venture because it works for a cause you believe in? Or is their ’story’ more important to you? Or is it the team of people involved in fund-raising or executing the program that gets you to decide and help?

Idea #2: Should Charity Be Noisy & Public?

Or do you shrink from the thought of tooting one’s horn about non-profit work? Is it your view that ’strong and silent’ is the best way to facilitate change?

Idea #3: What Do You Look For In a Non-Profit?

Talk about your ideal organization, what it will have, what it would do.

Idea #4: Cost of Charity

The issues about a non-profit’s expenses that most concern you as a donor.

Idea #5: What Proof Do You Want?

Before you donate, what things about a charity do you evaluate? In your opinion, what should a non-profit share, reveal and display so that it earns your respect, trust and support?

Idea #6: Are you more likely to donate to non-profits that blog?

Idea #7: How does social networking affect charity?

Idea #8: How can non-profits harness social networking power?

Idea #9: The impact of video in online fundraising

You could include a link to the CHD movie on YouTube, here it is:

http://niche2.com/chd/?page=2&paged=6

Idea #10: Viral marketing in supporting social causes

You might mention this attempt to spread CHD awareness using a catchy cartoon:

http://niche2.com/chd/?page=2&paged=3

Idea #11: Role of Social networks in addressing social ills

These are just some thoughts I came up with. Feel free to take up any other angle of the problem of CHD, or the event (the Heart Kids Tweet-a-thon), or anything else about it to feature in your efforts.

Don’t just stop with blogging it.

  • Invite opinions.
  • Ask for suggestions.
  • Engage discussion.
  • Provoke debate.
  • Encourage brainstorming.

And somewhere in the course of your blog or forum or Twitter post and interaction, weave in the message about the Heart Kids Tweet-a-thon and how we’re trying to raise awareness and funds for kids with congenital heart defects.

Please track-back to this post, or leave a comment here so that I’ll be able to direct visitors during the Tweet-a-thon to see your post.

Usain Bolt Marketing

If you watched the sprints at 2008 Beijing Olympics, the name of Usain ‘Lightning’ Bolt is surely a familiar one.
The 22 year old from Jamaica set the track on fire, winning both the 100m and 200m sprints – setting world records. He is the fastest man on earth!

Seth Godin Tips The Jar

“Ads are the new online tip jar” said Seth Godin in a blog post today. And marketers went crazy. Calling Seth crazy!
Yet crazy isn’t quite the word that springs to mind when talking about Seth Godin. Genius is more often apt.
Points to consider.
#1 – Not all advertising is ‘cost per click’. For CPM [...]

Honestly? Oh, Twitter!

A few minutes back, I asked my followers on Twitter this:
” 5 min FLASH poll. Quick, answer this: Which would you
rather have? An ‘honest’ $1,000 or an ‘ill gotten’ $10,000.”
They replied this way…

Honestly?
Oh, Twitter!

Apple iPhone in India – Fickle Fantasy

Like me, thousands of Indians have been dreaming and drooling over the launch of the Apple iPhone.
For weeks, if not months, we were eagerly devouring every morsel of news about the iconic gadget.
And as launch date approached, the excitement touched a new high of near-hysteria.
Then, the blow fell.
News broke that the Apple iPhone would cost [...]

Why I HATE 'Walled Gardens'

Yesterday, I found two people I admire on Twitter.
One is Steve Pavlina. The other is Dr.Ken Evoy.
Immediately, I followed them.
Steve had blogged about Twitter. He invited discussion on his forum (instead of commenting on the blog itself).
The forum required registration. So I signed up – and confirmed my email.
Then, I wrote a [...]

Six Figure Pro-Blogging Secrets

I won a copy of Darren Rowse and Chris Garrett’s fantastic book,

What Are You NOT Seeing?

Most marketers, even intermediate to advanced ones, have business myopia.
There’s a debate raging over scarcity tactics in selling.
It’s about a high profile launch that sold out 2,000 copies within minutes.
People wonder WHY such a popular seller would limit numbers.
Here’s a scenario (one of many, no doubt) to ponder…
Everyone gets on a prospect list early in [...]

Shifting the Paradigm of a Nation

In 1998, India woke up to the startling news of a successful nuclear test at Pokhran.
It stirred the collective psyche of a nation, energized people at a deeply primal level, instilled a sense of pride and shared achievement.
We were a global super-power.
Today morning, the country awakens with a surge of new found energy, hope and [...]
