How Ken McArthur Is Making An IMPACT

by Dr.Mani on September 26, 2008

RE-TWEET IT!

My good friend, Ken McArthur is standing in a circus tent today
asking 2,000 people to spread a message of hope to teenagers who
don’t think that life is worth living
.

I think it’s a great message of hope for anyone and would love to
see all of my readers think about spreading it today.

Here’s Ken’s simple message for for giving hope (and maybe saving
someone’s life!):

G – Greet and meet: talk to others, smile, say hello, ask
someone how they are doing

I – Involve yourself and others: find a cause you can support,
volunteer, pledge resources. Get the people around you
involved, especially if you see someone beginning to
withdraw. Invite them to participate in some activity, to
“get out” of their comfort zone

V – Validate others: tell others that they matter – especially
family members and friends that you tend to see daily but
may take for granted, give genuine complements

E – Empathize: be a listening ear, take time to be fully
present, don’t try to solve – just acknowledge someone’s
feeling/hurt

You can find out more about Ken’s wonderful project with his
Impact Action Team at this website.

Spread this message today!

And if you send it on let me know how many you sent it to!

An Interesting Twitter Story…

by Dr.Mani on September 22, 2008

RE-TWEET IT!

I did something unusual on Twitter yesterday.

I posted an affiliate link. To a sales page. This one:

“This 200% guarantee looks interesting!
http://tinyurl.com/4zwzy8 (aff link)”

One lady who was following me didn’t like it. She wrote:

” @drmani Allow me to unfollow you… twitter is
not a place for links to sales pages. At least
not in my twitterati.”

I granted her permission ;-)

After all, she’s right. Twitter is NOT a ‘pitching’ arena.

Yet this lady, who very likely has followed me for a short time only, missed a critical point. Or many.

#1 – 90% of my tweets (and I have 3,738 until now)
are about my followers… and 100% are about what’s
good for them. Including this affiliate link (It
comes from one of my most trusted friends online,
someone I’ve known & respected since 1997)

#2 – I authored ‘Twitter Profit’, an ebook that
TEACHES how to sell on Twitter. And no, I don’t
mean the mindless loud hawking that some newbies
try and fail miserably at, or the auto-follow bot
driven ’strategy’ that’s doomed to crash and burn
in time. (www.TwitterProfit.com has the story)

#3 – YOU are the only one who makes the rules,
decides how you SHOULD use Twitter!

There are NO ‘general’ rules about how to use the service. And you are in TOTAL control - of whom you follow, why, and what you do on the service.

Anyway, what happened in the 3 hours AFTER this lady’s tweet is amazing.

I ran a ‘flash poll’ of my 1,570 followers:

” This affiliate link lost me one ‘follower’ on
Twitter. http://tinyurl.com/4zwzy8 (aff link)
POLL: Does this kind of thing offend YOU?”

Most said they didn’t mind – because I only did it rarely, and with good intentions.

One said he DID mind – but not enough to stop following me (maybe because I gave so much value).

And the total number of my followers INCREASED… it’s now at 1,594.

AND 55 people clicked on the affiliate link to visit the sales page.

AND… One of them ordered the program!

Twitter is a micro-blogging social network, the hottest one around today, with over 2 MILLION users and growing.

What’s fantastic about it is that people use it in many different, fascinating ways.

DON’T LET ANYONE TELL YOU how to use Twitter!

Sure, someone who has learned a few tricks and tips (like me) may guide you on more effective or better ways to use Twitter.

But if you hear from (or of) the ‘Rules Brigade’ who loudly proclaim their world-view of how their way/view/opinion about using Twitter is the ‘ONLY way, Dah-ling!’… well, just turn a blind eye and deaf ear their way, ok?!
;-)

Enjoy Twitter.

Profit from it.

Why Delete Email Lists?

I’m midway through the process of deleting over 3,500 subscribers from my email list.
And paused to share some thoughts about WHY I’m doing this.
1. “They May Buy Sometime” is a myth
We’ve all heard it. A silent subscriber turns into a multi-thousand dollar spender after years of receiving your valuable content and insight [...]

Lessons From Tweet-a-thon

On September 12th, 2008, I did a 24-hour non-stop Twitter marathon to raise awareness and funds for congenital heart defects. The Heart Kids Tweetathon raised a little over $5,600 during the event (you can donate here, if you wish) and reached an audience of thousands with the message of Congenital Heart Disease awareness.
Here are [...]

Three P's – Key Drivers of Success

Passion, Purpose and Persistence
The 3 P’s can crown the result of any venture with glory.
Combined with a community or tribe, and energized by a common, shared set of values, goals and principles, their power becomes magnified many times.
Change – useful, meaningful change – becomes not just possible. It becomes inevitable.

The BOOK: Passion. Purpose. Persistence.

What I’ve shared with you over the course of this event intially started out as a series of notes for a new book.
You have read the kernel of it. What it needs is for parts to be fleshed out and expanded, as well as a few more ‘case studies’ from guest contributors.
Here’s what I’m [...]

Passion, Purpose, Persistence – And Heart Kids

The insights I’ve shared with you are mainly self-realized. In the course of an amazing, tiring, often scary and even agonizingly painful journey as fund raiser and CHD evangelist.
The 3 P’s have fuelled and sustained my decade long effort to help fund heart operations for under-privileged Indian children who have no chance of affording [...]

What Do YOU Think?

I’ve poured out my heart, sharing my thoughts, views and opinions about passion, purpose and persistence, and about how it has played a central role in my work with children fighting congenital heart disease.
Now it’s your turn to let me know what YOU think.
Did you find the content I shared interesting or useful?

Passion, Purpose & Persistence – A Quick Summary

I’ll try and put it all into a nutshell.
PASSION is what underlies every great venture… in business, in charity, in love, and in life.
It fuels and energizes you to reach greater heights than you ever imagined possible. It is transmitted to others in your sphere of influence. It spreads and transforms everyone it [...]

Persistence With Purpose

Blind adherence to any dictum is not good sense.
Persistence is good. But it also has to be purposeful.
If sticking on with what you’re doing is bringing no one any benefit, but is instead harming many, then going on just for the sake of being persistent isn’t quite right.
Unless there is a purpose behind your [...]
