RE-TWEET IT!
Read tweets of all those I follow
I see this as mandatory, as otherwise why would you FOLLOW someone?! And because it’s impossible to read tweets from many people, I limit the number of folks I follow to a modest figure – and use Twitter Search to browse the tweet-stream for other interesting stuff.
Respond to @drmani messages/tweets
Twitter is social networking. And responding to comments, replying to questions, engaging in dialog is a part of that networking. Yes, it takes time. Any meaningful relationship does.
Consider the value to my followers of everything I tweet
I’m obsessed with this one thing. Before hitting the ‘UPDATE’ button, I always pause to ask myself one question: “Does this add value to my followers?” If the answer is “No”, I do NOT click the button!
Retweet useful information
Presumably your followers are interested in the same kind of things that you are. That’s why I retweet information I find useful – because my followers will too. It’s a good practice to follow, and spreads valuable information around the network.
Engage in mini-conversations
Notice the qualifier ‘mini’. 140 characters poses one limitation. The time I choose to spend on Twitter is another. You could hang around Twitter all day, but unless it’s taking you where you want to go, it will be massively unproductive. So, learning how to end mini-conversations is a useful Twitter skill to master.
