Coping and Hoping

by Dr.Mani on November 28, 2008

I have been flitting from blog to blog, tweet to tweet, news channel to news channel, unable to focus on much else.

My city is in the throes of a cyclone that has flooded streets, cut off power, and practically made a busy metropolis grind to a halt.

But what’s happening miles away in Mumbai is making my heart ache.

On one blog, I read this awesome post. I felt this way in the midst of what happened in 1993, and now, even though far away from Mumbai, I feel the same way today.

Prem writes:

“This mythical ’spirit’… is perhaps the most gut-wrenching, heart-aching
symbol of collective helplessness.”

I called yesterday “a day for prayers, tears and deep introspection”. Not because that’s all I WANT to do… but because it’s all I CAN do.

Thanks, Prem, for putting into words, in a way I’ve been struggling to all of yesterday, the reality of the ‘challenge’ we face – and the means we use to cope.

I share your feelings.
