That picture is an American Indian TALKING STICK!
I learned about it from a lecture by Stephen R.Covey, while he talked about “empathetic listening”.
When American Indian tribes had meetings, whoever held the TALKING STICK was the ONLY one permitted to speak.
Everyone else had to listen – and listen in the frame of the speaker!
On this blog, I’ve always spoken MY mind. But with 300 RSS subscribers and a ton of other readers, there are still very few comments posted. You’ve been silent… probably because you don’t think I’m listening.
Today, I’m handing YOU the ‘Talking Stick’.
You talk. I’ll listen.
Say anything you’d like me to listen to. Write it as a comment to this post. You’ll have my undivided attention. When I’ve finished reading it, I’ll just reply with a “Ok, I’ve read it”.
No, I won’t argue, debate or address anything in your note.
I’ll just listen… empathetically.
Go!

One of the big challenges, Doc. We are all too happy to listen to great minds (and others) speak – but ask me to say something, anything – and I will freeze.
You might think all your babbles are being ignored by us but heck, no. We are intently listening to you
@Arun Agrawal – Ok, I’ve read it!
Probably the hardest thing to do on any blog is get the comments going and create a conversation.
Will be interested in seeing how this experiment works out. Always good to see out of the box thinking something you are good at.
@Mike Paetzold – Ok, I’ve read it!
I’ve not replied before because you’ve always held the talking stick. In the custom of the stick, it resides in the hands of those most knowledgeable of that subject the longest. You are definitely more knowledgeable about marketing than I, so I listened and learned while you held the talking stick.
Thank you for the lessons and for sharing the stick!
Dr Mani,
I agree with Arun, I am constantly listening and learning from you. Thanks for asking though.
To increase response how about you invite visitors to comment about your post?
Paul
