“American Idol” seems to have taken the world by storm, creating spin-offs in many fields. Like “Blogging Idol”.
I’ve had difficulty understanding the popularity of such a contest, or the craving to be recognized as an ‘idol’. But then, it’s been a long time since I was a kid… and yesterday, a youngster reminded me about how it used to feel.
To crave recognition. Universal acceptance. And fame.
She brought back nostalgic memories of days past, when I too would sit on the fence on a hot summer afternoon, dreaming of ruling the world. Of being fantastically famous. Of being insanely wealthy.
In a post that appeals in its guileless enthusiasm, this 13-year old writer and blogger offers anyone willing to help in her quest to be a ‘Blogging Idol’ the choice of all her prize possessions – mainly candy and a favorite pen!
Well, I could do with candy and a pen. But more than that, I could do with a huge dose of ‘going back to childhood’.
- Of being able to dream wild dreams again.
- Of being energized and excited about everything.
- Of reaching out for ‘impossible’ goals – and achieving them.
(Oh, scratch that last, I’m already involved in trying to fund 50 heart operations next year!
)
Anyway, Meghna is a young lady from India. I stumbled across her blog yesterday through Twitter. It was late at night, but her writing held me captive for long past when I wanted to retire for the day.
The girl has the natural instincts of a skilled copywriter. See this blog post and you’ll notice. Her writing ebbs and flows, with a cadence and rhythm that makes it incredibly hard to pause in the middle of a story and leave.
And boy, oh boy, can she weave a wicked tale! It takes imaginativeness and creativity of a high order to turn a visit of her best friend after a gap of some years into a short story that’s riveting and touching, like this one.
I glanced at the archive, and Meghna has been blogging for over a year. And has many blogs. Keeps them all updated regularly.
Anyone doing this full-time will vouch for how hard that is. Yet Meghna comfortably fits it into her ‘after school’ time.
Above all (to my mind), she obviously LOVES and enjoys blogging, writing, connecting, meeting people and sharing her life, thoughts and feelings with the world.
That’s why she’s my new ‘Blogging Idol’.
And being the illogically competitive kind of person I am, I’d like to help her win the ‘Blogging Idol’ contest – hands down.
So will YOU help me help Meghna win?
It’s easy!
All you have to do is subscribe to her blog – it’s here. Click the RSS button, choose your favorite blog reader, and you’re done. It’s free. Will take just 2 minutes. Thanks.
To make it worth your time, I’m even going to offer you a gift for helping out. Just subscribe to her blog and let me know you’ve done it, and I’ll give you a copy of today’s ‘Deal of the Day Christmas Special’ as a gift!
But even if you don’t, just hop over to Meghna’s blog, browse around, and experience the enthusiasm, talent and refreshingly exciting view of the world as seen through the hopeful, dreamy eyes of a 13-year old Blogging Idol.
And enjoy, even if for a brief moment, the joyous trip back to childhood again. A halcyon period when everything is possible and the world is your oyster. A happy, fun-filled time when every dream was sure to come true, and our biggest heart-breaks are things that, today, would just make us smile!
