Smile For A Brooch

by Dr.Mani on July 15, 2009

RE-TWEET IT!

I was in eighth grade. We were at my sister’s school to pick her up. She ran eagerly to the car, waving something in her hand.

It was a blue brooch.

“Daddy, Daddy, can I buy this? It’s only 5 rupees. Please?”

What surprised me was that took the money out of his wallet and handed it to his little girl!

As she ran back to the classroom, I looked at him in disbelief and asked:

“Surely that brooch isn’t worth even 1 rupee. Why did you let her buy it?”

His answer remains with me today, even after he is not with us, as a powerful reminder of what matters in life.

He said:

“Today, 5 rupees will buy her a smile and happiness, which even many times more may not when she grows older!”

I remembered those wise words when I saw Yaro Starak post an amazing success story from his launch of the ‘Blog Mastermind’.

This is what he said on Twitter:

And then, he followed it up with a tweet that sounded like an echo of my father’s wisdom:

Cherish your ‘brooch’.

And smile.

What an enchanting story. I saw this quote the other day from H Jackson Brown..somehow it sort of fits…

“Think big thoughts, but relish small pleasures.”

Good luck with the Heart For Kids Tweet-a-Thon..you deserve it.
