The Illusion of Certainty

RE-TWEET IT!

When I wrote “Dare to be Different“, I hadn’t read Eckhart Tolle’s “A NEW EARTH“, from which this passage stood out when I read it today:

“There may be a period of insecurity and uncertainty. What should I do? As the ego is no longer running your life, the psychological need for external security, which is illusory anyway, lessens. You are able to live with uncertainty, even enjoy it.

When you become comfortable with uncertainty, infinite possibilities open up in your life. It means fear is no longer a dominant factor in what you do and no longer prevents you from taking action to initiate change.

The Roman philosopher Tacitus rightly observed that “the desire for safety stands against every great and noble enterprise.” If uncertainty is unacceptable to you, it turns into fear. If it is perfectly acceptable, it turns into increased aliveness, alertness and creativity.”

- From Eckhart Tolle’s “A NEW EARTH”

How well this describes a certain part of my life – I dare say.

After a spanning 32 years of my life jet hopping (jet-propelled during the early stages) as
a Flight Attendant, I decided to resign from the job six years early – at the age of 54.

O.K. – Anyone could say, that it was an easy decision as we had no children and also because
my was employed.

Not even three months later, is where a part of your message: – - – - – - “There may be a
period of insecurity and uncertainty. What should I do? As the ego is no longer running your
life, the psychological need for external security, which is illusory anyway, lessens. You
are able to live with uncertainty, even enjoy it” – - – - – - – - – - – - – reminded me
that I have dared to be different.

My beloved wife was diagnosed with an Aneurysm in the Brain.
Alas! How could I go through this period of insecurity and uncertainity?

The thought of having “dared to be different” – kept me going.

I always do read your threads where ever possible Dr Mani, and I keep finding nuggets,
inside.

One year and a half years later – now – you have woken me upto get back, stay focussed –
which is the most difficult.

Staying focussed is a state of mind which is static which will soon lose its potent without
action.

I need to do something too – worthwhile.

Every thing needs followig up.
Yes! constantly.

Your work is proof – with quality and value – So Rare!

I dare say – - – - !
