What Are You NOT Seeing?

RE-TWEET IT!

Most marketers, even intermediate to advanced ones, have business myopia.

There’s a debate raging over scarcity tactics in selling.

It’s about a high profile launch that sold out 2,000 copies within minutes.

People wonder WHY such a popular seller would limit numbers.

Here’s a scenario (one of many, no doubt) to ponder…

Everyone gets on a prospect list early in the campaign.

Prospects get a sequence of free content that pre-sells them – on the expert.

Momentum builds up to the launch, with clear notices of limited seats.

On launch day… BAM! It sells out FAST.

ALL prospects – and many who are NOT YET prospects – hear about this.

They all go: “Hmm… Must be something GREAT in it to sell out so fast. What?”

They’ll seek answers the next time this expert’s launch comes around.

They’ll become prospects – again.

But those who are already prospects may learn sooner.

A few days, weeks or months later, a ‘limited’ re-launch could happen.

It would be offered exclusively to prospects who are on the list.

This would fill up any slots left open due to cancellations.

And when this course/program ends, another one follows…

To an audience PRIMED AND READY to expect scarcity – and geared to ACT.

Less ’selling’ required.  More ‘frenzy’.  Greater ‘buzz’.

Sweet!

Wouldn’t you like that for your business?

In the long term, the ‘lost sales’ would be compensated adequately – and more.

Sweet, Yes.

I love the organic, value based, low to no selling approach depicted here.
…I could just hear the marketing heavens damning me for my next statement though :-(

This is fine with me – both as a consumer and a business owner/marketer – only if the scarcity is real. Let there really be a certain number of seats, slots or what have you, even if it’s true THIS time around.

When it’s all made up, I’m turned off, usually for good. How does the scarcity model fit into web 2.0 pull marketing, anyway?

I look forward to this series…Thank You Dr. Mani!
