Your Blog MARKETING

RE-TWEET IT!

This Blogging MARKETING post is a part of “2 Weeks To Launch Your Blog“.

Unless you are publishing a personal blog that is written exclusively for your own personal satisfaction, you need visitors to come to your blog and read or hear or watch what you’re saying.

And the only way to ensure your blog is not an inhabitant of the blogosphere’s graveyard, but is instead lively, active and widely read is by becoming a master at marketing it.

There are some very obvious ways of marketing a blog that you probably already are aware of.

- Mentioning it everywhere, to everyone. “Hey, I’ve got a blog” is a good snippet to introduce your blog into conversation at a party or picnic or drive with friends.

- Include it on your emails that go out to friends, family and contacts, with a link to your blog.

- Print it on your business cards and envelopes you mail stuff out in

- If you’re more adventurous, have bumper stickers made with the URL or even paint the blog address on your car or the wall of your house

- Wear a t-shirt with your blog title and URL printed on it

- Call your friends and family and tell them to look at it – especially grandma, who’ll likely twist everyone else’s arm to do it too!

But these are efforts that have smaller impact. They are too small or untargeted to bring a flood of visitors swarming over your blog.

And because everything else you do with your blog becomes irrelevant if no one comes to it and reads what you’re saying, I’m going to devote a full week to sharing some parts of my blog marketing plan that goes into effect whenever I launch an important new blog.

The activities are listed sequentially, in random order. There’s no reason you can’t start with activity #11, or carry out activities #3, #6 and #9 simultaneously.

And always remember – the more marketing tactics you include in your blog marketing plan, the better will be your results.

While the ideas I write about are based on my experience, they are by no means comprehensive or complete. Please share what works for you – post a comment or blog about it and send me your link.

I’m sure you’ll get to this one Dr Mani. Here’s my thoughts. Blogs are a conversation and sharing comments is joining in the conversation. Your own blog may not be shown in the post but your name is and if you are consistent with your name and join in several different conversations and you make people laugh or think or empathise with you, people will notice and may remember. Don’t be a wallflower in forums or blogs. Join the conversation.

Genie, awesome point. Thanks for sharing that. Way back when I got started working online in 1996, I had next to zero experience – but it never fazed me. I’d jump right in to discussions on email lists and forums, make the silliest mistakes and gaffes – but not mind because I was LEARNING.

What I didn’t know then is that I was also BRANDING myself – and now that branding is priceless.

I love this advice – Don’t be a wallflower!
