Who are you addressing your talk? Their pursuits, beliefs and significant values? What is the group’s commonality with rest of the society, what are the unique features?
What is your message? Set yourself a stringent achievement task i.e. to ascertain whether you have effectively delivered what you had set out to speak about.
How is it possible to communicate your missive? Words and sentences you use is quite vital, select them with care and tailored to your listeners. Plan the start, body and end of your talk well in advance. If possible prepare some visual aids to drive your point home.
When? The talk should be timed well so that your reflections are appreciated and timely. Ensure that you lace your speech with pauses to let the matter sink in.
Where? This is the venue you are going to speak in. You need to be familiar with the hall, auditorium or wherever you are expected to address your listeners. Go there well in advance and customize the layout as per your comfort zone.
Why? You might attract lot of people to the venue but to make them your listeners you have to give a fair explanation as to why they should listen to you. What is their benefit from your talk, what is the value of your message, will they take home something of use to them?
