Please ensure you read Part 1 and Part 2 of this 3 part series.

Prepare, Execute, Perform
Even the best speakers with most persuasive speeches have failed to make an impact on stage because they didn’t acknowledge the value of practice and ignored it. Speeches make good impact only when the orator takes time to write, prepare and practice. Also plan and rehearse the gestures, posture, stance and style of speaking.
Remember that nothing can replace proper preparation and it is always the best way to success.
Make time to prepare, rehearse in as much a real time setting as possible. Try to imagine an audience, if you can’t call everyone over for a cup of coffee and ask them to listen. But work hard you must.
Be Punctual
One of the best things to do is to reach the venue well before scheduled time. There are several advantages of coming early. You can check out the auditorium/ venue of your talk and test its lighting and sound systems, chairs and tables and other objects you might want to use to make your presentation more effective.
Another major necessity to be well before starting time is to network with your audience and know their pulse and expectations. A vital step to build that much needed rapport with the people who have come to listen to you..

Observe a moment’s silence

Enter the dais and move towards the edge. Take a minute off and observe silence. Observe the listeners, inhale deeply and then start your talk. If you have taken care to follow all the steps, your speech will be a successful orator.

A warning note… never commit your talk by heart. One It will be a disaster if you forget one sentence in the middle and two it will sound artificial and rehearsed.

Now you are sure of what you will be speaking on and how. The next step is to get you ready for the stage. First of all finalize your attire, preferably pleasant and congenial.

Addressing a gathering –tips to communicate on any subject - Part 3

Please read the Part 1 and Part 2 of this series to have a better understand of what we are discussing here. In case you are done, lets continue….

Oration becomes better with rehearsing often. So rehearse the talk preferably sonorously, particularly the start and end paragraphs. Rehearse your talk completely with all the illustrations. Continue rehearsing till the speech rolls along just like normal conversation and get habituated to your intonation.

A good workout prior to the talk will help smolder your tension, so it is best if you could do some strenuous physical activity prior to your talk. Kneading the muscles of the back, neck, shoulders etc places where you are likely to get a nervous spasm is good way to avoid tension. Inhale hard, move your feet, scream or do something that helps you relax. At a relaxed state your talk will be better.

Enter the hall and stride purposefully to the front and as you walk deliberate about the speech you are going to deliver, display an assured posture. On certain occasions beginning the talk prior to getting to the fore will get you the listener’s notice and will not create any tensed quiet when you get to the dais. Once on the podium, look around and make eye contact with a few members of the audience—you are sure to be flabbergasted when you notice the way their concentration and silence pervades the hall.

Addressing a gathering –tips to communicate on any subject - Part 2

This is part 2 of the 3 part series, where I’m trying to fill you all with some tips I’ve found to be extremely useful in helping me communicate on any subject. Lets continue from where we left in the last post..
Think only about the subject of your talk, reassure yourself by saying “I will give the listeners a great deal of vital data.”. The talk maybe about anything, it could be a presentation to influence customers to buy your product or you could be thanking everyone at a felicitation function, just remember that the listeners have come here and are eagerly waiting to receive information from you. This feeling that the audience is waiting to learn from you gives a great high and removes tension of the stage.

Make an attempt to get to the venue first. This is way to get intimately acquainted with the auditorium and the comfort level you develop with the surroundings the greater impact your talk will have. Observe the layout of chairs and imagine your listeners in the seats. Walk up and down and get relaxed in the venue. Go to the podium and look around till the end of the hall and then slowly move your attention to the front row. Then walk around the dais so you will not conceal yourself at the rear of the podium.

To assist you deliver a presentation if you are using any machinery get familiar to use them well in advance. Maybe couple of days before the actual talk. You will be more at ease if you are sure of how to use the equipment. It is very important that you are familiar with all your implements if you have to appear as a intrepid speaker. While using slides be careful not to write your entire message on them.
